Ouya

Postby monoRAIL » Sun Jul 28, 2013 2:51 pm

I picked up an Ouya on pre-order. It's pretty nice, there's only one shmup on it so far that I can see (DubWars) which is an arena shooter.

Seems like it'd be a great platform for selling indie shmups. It runs android so Unity exports to it pretty easily. Anyone else got one or developing for it?

Ouya have announced they'll match any kickstarter funds for an Ouya project between $50,000 and $250,000. Sounds like a good opportunity to make a professional shmup on console.

Important caveat:
If your Kickstarter campaign meets the funding requirements and you agree to be exclusive on OUYA for a minimum of six months—beginning the day you launch on OUYA—we'll match 100% of the total amount raised up to $250,000 (until the $1M fund is tapped).

Seems like either Ouya are happy to back a project which was entirely backed by friends & family of the project creators, or there are some other shady dealings going on here:

Creating a kickstarter, funding it with $50k of your own money then claiming Ouya's matching $50k seems like a quick way to make some money!

We are porting our shmup to Ouya and so far the main problem is optimization. In PC everything is fair game but on this little thing we are suffering a lot trying to avoid the thing choking with our game. Are you facing the same issues? We use Unity btw.
