How about a chat applet or IRC channel?

As there is quite a user base and also "regular" users here a chat facility could be quite handy.

IRC is pretty stable from bots or unwanted users.

There is an IRC channel for shmups fans, though it's mostly filled with players rather than developers.

Any Efnet IRC server, channel #shmups. I'm sometimes in there as monoRAIL. Great place to find playtesters if you have a new game you want tested.

This will open it in a browser: http://chat.efnet.org:9090/?nick=noname ... ogin=Login (just swap out '?nick=noname' for whatever nickname you want to use).

So no plans for IRC or chat facility for this site?

There is little or no development talk in #shmup on efnet, I sat there throughout the night.

Would like to see it, a lot!

No plans for it at the moment. If we hold a competition and I see a lot more users online at the same time then it might be worth it.

I think IRC channels are actually detrimental to a forum.
I used to think mods who thought this way were crazy but I do really see their point now that I've been around forums for many years.
If you go to Shmups forum for example you'll find that what is said on the forum is a bit more well thought out than random conversations held on the IRC channel there.

I think this forum is too young for an IRC channel and it would stifle any growth.
Tutorials and topics need to be held here for historic reasons too.
